In memory of Atle,
It came as a shock when we learned that the colourful norwegian Atle
died on the 9th November 2009 in Yasothon. Atle lived the past 6 years in
Thailand with his wife Dukk and little girl Marita.
At the beginning of 2009 Atle found out about a
children's home in his area "Suthasinee Foundation for Children and Youths" that did not have a profile on
the internet. He decided he would do something about this and give them support in their work for children
born with the AIDS/HIV virus through no fault of their own.
Atle did a great deal to gather support to help the children who lived at the orphanage in Yasothon. On the
internet, a website was established to support and educate people about the orphanage. Atle visited the orphanage
several times, photos and movies from the visits were added on his homepage on Facebook and Youtube.
Atle did everything he could to get publicity for the orphanage, discussion forum for Asia, and Facebook was e.g.
used to provide support. Atle contacted the media near and far, and managed to engage many people who were
willing to support the children with gifts and donations, not only from Norway but many different countries. Many
of his neighbours in the village where he lived gave their support to the orphanage.
We hope and believe that people's support to the children's home will continue as before, and that more people will
help.
The website will continue, and a group of people will continue working for the orphanage, in Atle’s spirit.
As we knew Atle we will remember his warm heart and his indomitable commitment to the disadvantaged in society and
especially his commitment to the children's home in Yasothon. We thank Atle for his commitment and want to give to
peace and light in his memory.
Rest in peace
Kindest Regards Gunnar
